Buying guide
1. The sponge is the problem, not the bottle
A sponge left in the basin stays wet for hours and smells within a week. Raised on a slotted tray it drains in minutes. That single design choice matters more than the number of compartments: a caddy with three sections but a solid base simply holds the water in a different place.
2. Fit it to the tap, not the sink
Measure the gap between the tap base and the wall, and the height from the counter to the spout. A caddy taller than the spout gets in the way of filling a pan; one wider than the gap pushes the washing-up liquid out of reach. The caddy should occupy the corner behind the tap, not the working area in front of it.
3. Keep it out of the splash line
Water from a running tap reaches 30-40 cm sideways at normal pressure. A caddy placed directly in that line stays permanently wet; placed just outside it, it dries between uses. If the counter is short, angle the spout rather than moving the caddy into the basin.
4. Weight and stability
At about 800 g with a bottle in it, the caddy is heavy enough not to slide but light enough to lift with one hand for cleaning. That is the practical target: if a caddy needs two hands to move, it stops being cleaned weekly and starts collecting residue at the base.
5. Cleaning routine that takes a minute
Once a week: lift the caddy, rinse the tray, wipe the counter underneath. Once a month: soak the tray in hot water with a little bicarbonate to remove the film that builds up around the sponge. This is the whole maintenance routine, and it is why a slotted base beats a decorative solid one.

Does the base actually drain?
Yes – the base is slotted so water runs out. Rinse the tray weekly to stop detergent residue clogging the slots.
Can it hold a large washing-up bottle?
It holds a standard 500 ml bottle comfortably. A 1 litre family bottle will fit but leaves little room for the brush.
Is it dishwasher safe?
Not recommended. The heat and the detergent in a dishwasher degrade the finish faster than hand rinsing; a weekly rinse is enough.
