Beauty Tools: Materials and Settings Before Claims

Beauty tools are sold on results that are hard to verify and easy to photograph. The useful questions are about materials and settings: what touches your skin, and what the device can be set to.

Questions worth asking

  • Cleansing brushes: silicone or bristle? Silicone is easier to keep clean; the waterproof rating is the spec that decides whether it survives a wet sink.
  • Mirrors: colour temperature in Kelvin decides whether makeup looks right in daylight or only in the bathroom.
  • Anything heated: ask for a stated temperature range, not “gentle warmth”.
