Electronics is the category where the spec sheet is most likely to lie by omission. Three numbers matter more than any brand: the power a charger can actually deliver on one port, the sustained write speed of a drive, and the video standard a cable really carries.
What to check before you buy
- Chargers: total wattage is meaningless if it is split. Look for the wattage per port, and for which fast-charge protocol it supports.
- SSD: burst speed is the marketing number. Sustained write is what decides whether a large file copy crawls.
- Cables: a USB-C connector says nothing about the wire inside. HDMI version and refresh rate must both be stated.
