1. Measure the depth before anything else
At 15.5 cm deep this shelf suits a desk against a wall or a narrow windowsill. Measure your space first: a shelf that overhangs the front edge of a desk gets knocked every time you stand up, and one that is too deep pushes your keyboard away from you.
2. Engineered wood, honestly described
Engineered wood is a composite – wood fibre bonded and pressed into panels – rather than a solid plank. It is dimensionally stable, it does not split at the ends the way solid timber can, and it holds a printed oak finish well. What it does not like is standing water: wipe spills rather than letting them sit.
3. Loading it sensibly
